Four nutrients for radiant skin!

Good nutrition is essential to maintaining healthy skin.

Although it's impossible to prevent the natural aging process good nutrition can help maintain firm skin and a clear and bright complexion.

Our skin is made up of multiple layers - it's the largest organ in our bodies! Often we focus on the topical layers of skin health, nourishing with oils, serums, and creams but just as important is how we feed our skin from the inside out.

Here are four super nutrients that help your skin to glow;

1. WATER - Keeping your skin hydrated

Okay, it's not technically a nutrient but it is super important! Our skin needs a steady supply of water to keep it hydrated, plump and glowing.

Fluids also help flush out harmful substances from the body and prevent them from being excreted through the skin where they can do damage. Water ensures that our cells work as well as possible including our skin cells.

To work out how much water you need to drink daily, you can use this formula. Your bodyweight in kg x 0.033 = how many litres of water you should be drinking every day.

2. ANTIOXIDANTS -Fight free radical damage

Free radicals are molecules with an unpaired electron, they search the body for a pair but in the process cause damage to cells, proteins (such as collagen, a protein in our skin), and DNA. The build-up of this damage over time is one of the key contributors to aging.

Antioxidants help protect our cells by fighting free radicals and strengthening our cells. This can help prevent sun damage and slow the process of aging on the skin.

Leafy greens and berries are a great food source of antioxidants. A daily Red Shot or Double Shot has the antioxidant power of six servings of fruits and vegetables.

3. VITAMIN C - Collagen production

We know we need plenty of Vitamin C to keep our immunity strong but it is also a powerful antioxidant. It is necessary for producing natural collagen and can speed up wound healing.

You can get Vitamin C from fresh fruit and veges like berries, citrus, kiwifruit, and broccoli. You can also ensure your daily recommended intake of Vitamin C with a Double Shot a day.

One Double Shot contains 127% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C.

4. VITAMIN A - Sun protection and skin repair

Vitamin A plays a role in protecting our skin from the sun and repairing our skin. It promotes collagen production which keeps our skin firm and wrinkle-free. It has also been associated with decreasing the occurrence of acne and keeping it looking vibrant.

Orange fruit and veges such as kumara, carrots, and pumpkins are rich in Vitamin A as well as dark green vegetables.

“So many things I love about my shots, but the best one is the energy, no afternoon slump, I am noticeably more active and really noticed a difference the one time I forgot to take my afternoon shot!!! Haven’t had a cold this year either.”

Amanda Beauchamp

“We love the increase in energy! I have been taking both shots throughout my pregnancy and I am yet to really get sick this winter! I'm sure my body is thanking me for the extra nutrients at this time.”

Anna

“For me, it's actually the peace of mind that me and my vege-adverse 7 year old are getting some greens to help keep up healthy. I also noticed my skin had an extra glow and less fine lines too.”
